It is the responsibility of all gas fitters who who perform maintenance or installation, to inspect the immediate work area. They must ensure appliances and gas lines are installed per CSA gas code. If a deficiency is sighted, or an area requires to be repaired/upgraded they must issue a warning tag on either the appliance or the entire gas supply line.
Type “B” tags are issued when they are not immediate hazards but there is a limited time frame where the work must be completed. This is typically 40 days from the date of issue.
If you have been issued a warning tag you can understand the frustration associated with sourcing a contractor to have the issue rectified.
GasGuys.ca Inc. offer repairs on gas leaks and gas piping infractions. Some of the most common ones are as follow:
Type A warning tags
4.3.7 and 4.3.8 – indicate a gas leak has been detected and the supply line has been shut off at either the source or the appliance.
Type B warning tags
6.12.2 – the pipe passing through the floor or wall does not meet the minimum clearances and must be replaced.
6.14.7 – A close nipple, a street elbow has been used and needs to be replaced.
4.7.3 – interior gas piping on the gas supply line must be electrically grounded or bonded in accordance with the requirements of the local electrical code
Some “B” warning tags do not require you to make modifications to the gas supply line and can be repaired by a home owner. They do however require someone with a valid TSSA license to sign off on the tag once the work has been completed.
